On Friday, a Dunkin' Donuts employee in Florida was re-arrested, just days after the customer he allegedly punched died from his injuries.
The incident involving Corey Pujols, 27, and a 77-year-old man is said to have occurred on May 4 at a Dunkin' location in Tampa. According to The Tampa Bay Times, when police and rescue crews arrived on the scene, they discovered the elderly man unconscious and bleeding from the head.
The man died on May 6 while he was in intensive care. According to the news outlet, an autopsy revealed that he died as a result of a skull fracture and brain contusions caused by blunt head trauma.
On the day in question, the man was said to be dissatisfied with the service he received at the drive-thru window. According to police, the man ignored Dunkin' employees' requests to leave and instead went inside to argue with Pujols, the store manager.
Pujols told police that during the argument, the man, who was a regular customer, called him a racial slur. According to Pujols, he asked the man to repeat the slur. Pujols allegedly punched him in the face when he did so. The police report revealed the slur that allegedly sparked last week's fatal altercation.
The punch knocked the man backwards, causing him to hit the back of his head on the concrete floor. Surveillance video appears to show Pujols striking the man and the man collapsing on the floor. During the incident, the man is not seen touching Pujols.
Pujols was arrested on charges of battery on a person over the age of 65 and released the next day on $2,000 bail, but he was arrested again on Friday and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a person over the age of 65. He is still imprisoned without bail.
