Coronavirus Situation In France Is Improving “Slowly But Surely”, PM Says

France's coronavirus situation is "slowly but surely" improving, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said on Sunday, while stressing that the health crisis was far from over.

PM Edouard Philippe said there were signs that pressure on hospitals had been lightening, after the number of patients in intensive care had dropped in a row for several days.

France, which has reported nearly 20,000 deaths as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, has been in virtual lockdown for almost five weeks, but is expected to begin to lighten some containment steps since May 11.

PM Philippe said that the outbreak was just the start of an economic crisis, saying that it would be "brutal."
