How to take precautions in Cancer

Types of cancers:
There are various types of cancers-
Anal cancer
Breast cancer
Gastric cancer
Lung cancer
Skin cancer
Ovarian cancer
Thyroid cancer, etc.

About 40% of cancer deaths are because of our own unhealthy life. Use of tobacco by humans are the cause of 20% deaths whereas 10% are due to lack of physical inactivity, excessive drinking of alcohol and poor diet. Approximately 5% are caused by certain infections which left untreated and others are due to inherited genetic defects from a person's parents. Many cancers can be prevent by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too much alcohol, eating plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

Tobacco smoke, causes 90% of lung cancer it also causes cancer in the head, neck, bladder, stomach, kidney and pancreas. Tobacco smoke contains over fifty known carcinogens, including nitrosamines and poly-cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Tobacco is responsible for one in five cancer deaths in worldwide. Lung cancer death rates in the world have mirrored smoking patterns, with increase in smoking followed by increases in lung cancer and death rates.

Unhealthy diet & Physical inactivity are related upto 20-30% cancer deaths in world wide. Excess body weight is associated with the development of many types of cancer. Physical inactivity is believed to contribute cancer risk, not only through its effect on body weight but also negative effects on the immune system and endocrine system. More than half of the effect from diet is due to over nutrition rather than eating too few vegetables or other healthful foods.

Some specific food habits are linked to specific cancers. A high salt diet is linked to gastric cancer. A frequent food contamination causes liver cancer. Betel nut chewing can cause oral cancer. Gastric cancer is more common in some countries due to over salt diet.

Some Tips for reducing risk of Cancer:


Skin protection:

Protect your skin from the sun after noon. In morning it is good have sun rays to enter your room but after noon it is harmful. Its U.V rays damage the skin's DNA and can cause genetic mutation that leads to skin cancer. Use sunscreen every time you go outdoors. It protects you against U.V rays.

Eat a diet that reduces the risk of cancer. Researches suggests that a healthy diet can reduce upto 10% risk of several cancers. Limit the intake of red meat(Beef, Bacon). Avoid processed meat such as sausages. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables everyday and minimize the use of sugary drinks.

Be physically active. Research shows active people have lower risk of cancer like colon and breast cancer. You should do daily activities like cycling, walking, jogging etc. Regular yoga can help you to maintain your body.


Minimize the use of alcohol:

Limit your alcohol consumption. This means no more than two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. Oral cancers is more common in alcohol users.

Avoid taking supplements:
Nowadays people rely on pills for a good physique and taking inappropriate pills which may affect their body. Supplements should be taken with good food not instead of good food.

Don't use tobacco: 
Using any type of tobacco puts you on a risk of cancer on lungs, bladder and kidneys. Decide to stop using it. It is one of the important health decision you can make.
